He packed me off to The Cape Grafton with Senior Cadet Donald Matheson Sept 74 at Crofton BC, then forgot all about me the crew paid off in Antwerp but Jim Gray forgot all about me and I did a double trip, Antwerp Jan 75 thats when Frank Mason joined loved TR6s glad to see he had a red one thatw as his dream, we would sit in his cabin and listen to his Billy Connoly tape over and over. yes that is John Brown the Senior steward in the yellow t shirt, and the little girl with Frank is I st Mate David Whites Daughter, about feb 75 , Pointe Noire Congo, then we headed for Japan, I have many funny stories to tell from the. Captain was A Fraser the piper his pic is in the gallery, I sailed with him twice GC and C Howe, 3 times with Commodore W Warden, Grafton Howe and Nelson, i was a Deck Cadet, , and GP1 in 76 on Baron Ardrossan when she had to get RentoKill onboard in Sydney a few photos of that crew as well saw someone posted about that. I feel like a very old timer when reading the guestbooks as I started my apprenticeship in 1955 on the Baron Maclay built 1924. Captain Jimmy Reid and Ch. Off. Charlie Lord. First trip was just over 18 months around the world. What an adventure for a sixteen year old boy. Then the Baron Dunmore built about 1932 then two NEW ships Baron Ogilvy and the Baron Berwick. I look back now at those happy days and although it was hard at the time the training that Hogarths gave me has given me a substantial knowledge of seamanship and the gift of self discipline. I have always been proud to say that I was a Baron Line apprentice and it has been to my benefit in many quarters throughout my life. I would like to hear from the old men out there of the 1955-1960 era. Best regards to you all.

Hi Jimmy

I remember you well, not least of all that run ashore in Oz when a certain 4/E decided he wanted to dismember you! And yes, it was the Ardrossan.

sailed ith SSM '75 to '78 as electican, first ship Cape Leeuwin, joined her in Frisco. 1st Leckie was Jimmy Leiper. I remember sailing with Billy Budd but can't remember what ship either Cape Horn or Barron Ardrossan I think, Jim Callagan was the Sparkie and old Albert the Chief Steward. My career with SSM ended after the MV Brittenburg fiasco (imagine trying to take our O/T payment off us). Sailed with Anchor Line and Bowrings after that before settling ashore in 1981.I was one of 3 leckies fom N.Ireland sailing with SSM At the same time the other two being Colin McErlean and Davy Mawhinney. I would like to here from anybody that remembers me.

. I sailed with SSM in the 70s on the Cape Horn, Baron Wemyss and the Renfrew. What great ships and great runs and of course the Glasgow boys who crewed them. I am retired and now live in the Philippines and would welcome contact with any of the boys who remember me. Although there are many who spring to mind I would mention Duggie McGuire, Con Gallagher and Jimmy Gaffney. Do any of the boys remember "Fiji Sue" and Bella the Fella" in good old Sydney? Ha-Ha.

I appreciate a year has gone by since Frank Taylor passed away whilst at sea however I have the following to express.

I was saddened to read this news whilst reading through the guestbook today 11th May08 and my thoughts go out to Mary and his daughters at this time.

I met Frank on the Baron Murray (Taima) where we sailed together he as Chief Engineer and me as Master, in 1987.

Not only a first class engineer but a great companion and confidante as the tide of shipping changed and the crew nationalities placed greater pressure on the top two.

Great dry sense of humour and a positive drive that somehow got us through.

Over the years I have often thought of that voyage and the hassles we were up against as Eastern Bulkers HK became a part of acomarit.

My genuine condolences to his family on the anniversary of his passing.

Greg

Hi. I am trying to find someone who knew my dad ROBERT (BOB) DAVIDSON. He died 15 April 1961 en-route from Peru to home (dad was buried in Baltimore USA). He was serving on the M.V YORK. I was only 5 when he died and with him being away so much I didn't really know him.

One of my aunts has just passed me correspondence from Lyle Shipping company and one of the names mentioned of someone who was close to my dad was R J KELL A.B.

I would love to hear from someone who knew him.
