Sailed on the following.
Cape Clear
Cape Howe
Baron Mclay Worked thereafter on the rigs and the dive ships. Vividly remember us all saying you'll never get us on them! Left the sea and went to train in the construction industry best move ever.I am privileged to have my own yacht and therefore still able to enjoy the sea albeit only in the summer months. To all who remember me I wish that all is well in your world.Kindest thoughts.

I sailed as 2nd Eng on The Baron renfrew for a couple of years in the late 70's just before she was sold. To say it was character building is an understatement, the MIP lube system just couldn't maintain the exhaust valves. Happy days, is anyone out there who remembers me? We had a Frank Hardin tape which was played almost every night and never failed to raise a laugh, boy did we know how to live!

Bumped into one Chris Anderson today, who let me into this site.
I served my time on the old Baron Wemyss from early 1963 under Capt. Murdo McLeod, a giant of a man, dry ship, the scouse crew jumped off leaving Huskisson dock at Liverpool, and we picked up a crew of drunken irishmen in Dublin. I managed to get home for 6 hours some 18 months later and went off then for a further 10 months. Then I got 2 weeks leave! I got £518 for 5 years apprenticeship. and lost all my leave for going to the toilet during working hours.
I did time on various v/l's of Lyle, United Baltic and Gardline.
Then from 1976, did 27 years in the Fire Service. Have been retired now for nearly 7 years.
I am losing my memory a bit these days, but can remember 2nd Mates Uriah Heap and Bill Greatorex, 1st Mate John Mackay to mention one or two.
The engines were two cycle /3xcyl twin opposed piston Doxfords wich ran at around 100rpm.
I have one or two old photos taken on a Kodak Brownie Box, so I will try and scan them for this site.

Thanks very much Jim I would love a photo of her if you can send it to my e-mail. Glad to hear Captain Bryson is still around still have fond memories of looking after him, and meeting him in the final of the crib knockout (he won) even though I was only seventeen he still turned up for the game with cans of beer for his opponent, also the 2 supernumaries, two fantastic old gentlemen who used refer to each other by their ranks, ie tell the general I’ll see him on deck or tell the brigadier I’ll meet him in the wardroom.

Attention Frank Parkinson - interesting that you sailed on the older Baron Pentland in 1965/66. Your old Captain is still going strong and in fact attended the Christmas Lunch in Glasgow just last week. If you want a photo of your old ship, let me know and will send.

Just found this site, reading through the guestbook not to sure if I am on the right path. I sailed on the Baron Pentland from Feb 1965 to Mar 1966. When I Googled the ships name it showed me a pic of a bulk carrier launched 1976. If by any chance I am on the right line (pun intended) is there anyone who sailed on her between those dates. The master was H Bryson who I believe was one, if not the youngest captain of a deep sea vessel at that time. I had a great time and have told my children some of the less risqué episodes of my trips. I still have photos taken swimming in the Panama Canal when half the crew went for a swim with just a rope over the side, none of us could climb back up till a rope ladder was dropped over. By the way I was a catering boy any one who knows me please get in touch.

I spent Xmas aboard the Cape Race in 1983 in Port Kaiser Jamacia.I was actually from the STUK Tanker Paludina. Can you imagine 2 British ships in the same port at the same time on Xams Day? What a party that was until our Skipper got wind of it.
The rotten barsteward made us all come back to the Paludina and we set sail for Kingston where we went on the hook for about 3 days.He was without doubt the most unpopular man on the face of the planet. His reason was we where on a ship to work and not have fun.I never got the chance to Thank the men of the Cape Race for a great afternoon on Xmas day all those years ago so here it is boys........
Thank You .
You guys rock!
I really appreciated the kindness you showed to the crew of the MV Paludina in a far away port a long time ago.

I did my first trip after getting my Class 4 on the ex Cape Leeuwin in 1982. She had been re named as the Tanjong Utara at the time, and over the next three years became the Kildrummy and then the Rebeka Oma. She was a really happy ship, mainly because we had sweet FA to fix anything with as she was always being sold.
I then went to the Sea Taian in Tomano Japan - the only new build I was ever on. Great ship, great crew.
